“A work of art should always teach us that we have not seen what we are seeing.”
Paul Valéry
Burhan Amer’s canvases are an abstract assemblage of multiple colors and shapes. The diversity of textures also constitutes a large part of his work, the artist never limiting himself to the traditional brush and constantly alternating between tools. This tendency to abstraction stems from a mixture of travel memories and momentary intuitions, but is also linked to a desire to generate a conceptual vision of the world as it presents itself to us, with its multiple colorful, torn, fragmented images and posters… The artist multiplies the layers of painting in the interest of generosity, while inevitably and fully insewaying in the process of overconsumption that governs our society and on which his work also wishes to carry out a reflection.
